Description
All electric homes
All-electric homes use only electricity to power everything, not gas. All electric homes come from new construction and renovating existing homes. Over the last two decades, more of our electricity came from carbon-free sources like wind and solar. Gas emissions remained steady or grew as we continued to use it for heating and cooking.
The City supports the transition to all electric homes by:
- Offering funds for individual pieces of electrifying equipment, like air source heat pumps.
- Partnering on education efforts with the Electrify Everything campaign
- Requiring new construction to meet Department of Energy (DoE) Zero Energy Ready or Passive House (PHIUS) certification as a condition for certain City grants

What we’re doing now
Current efforts include the focus on equipment that replaces or limits gas use in our residential incentive programs. Such as:
- Air source heat pumps
- Heat pump electric water heaters
- Electric panels
Other efforts include:
- Passive house or DoE Zero Energy Ready certifications in 4d New Construction
- Green Cost Share Innovative Air Pollution Reduction
